Studies & money

The expenses of students vary greatly. The amount of the expenses depends, for example, on the age of the student and the type of accommodation. Nevertheless, there are guidelines on the monthly expenses of students in Germany. On average, they have about € 900 per month (rent, health insurance, broadcasting fees, study costs, living costs, etc.).

Whether you can apply for scholarships as an international student, whether you can claim student loans or whether you may even be eligible for social benefits always depends on the country you come from, how long you have been living in Germany and, if applicable, your residence title. However, many international students only have jobs to finance themselves or to fill up their blocked account for the Foreigners Registration Office (Ausländerbehörde).

The staff at the Social Counseling Service will be happy to help you find the right financing for your studies.
