10th Franco-German Photo Competition 2025
The Franco-German photo competition is entering its 10th round in 2025 and this time the theme is “Peace”. Entries can be submitted until 12.05.2025.
In a world full of conflicts and exactly 80 years after the end of the Second World War, peace in Europe is more important than ever. However, peace is not only crucial between states, but also between cultural and religious communities, between generations and in the family, but also in everyday life, in the neighborhood and in relationships. And what does peace actually look like in communication, on social media or in the digital space? Last but not least, peace plays an important role in education, training and research, on the path to social justice or in the culture of remembrance. Is peace a goal or a path? What do you think? Background
The Franco-German Photo Competition is a competition for students from Germany and France, jointly organized by the DSW, the Cnous, the Student Unions and the Crous.
The photo competition aims to strengthen Franco-German friendship, promote artistic and international activity among students, and support the international activities of the Crous and Student Unions through the DSW and the Cnous.
Furthermore, the competition serves to produce a traveling exhibition, which will be shown in the Crous and Studierendenwerke and at the DFJW over the course of the year, as well as a digital documentation. The photo competition aims to promote students' creative forms of expression and at the same time strengthen their commitment to Franco-German friendship.
Conditions of participation
All students of legal age who are enrolled at a German or French university can take part, regardless of their origin or nationality.
Admitted to the competition are:
- Self-taken photos ⇒ Pictures created with AI are excluded from the competition!
- Digital black-and-white and colour photographs in JPG format (*.jpg) with a minimum resolution of 2362 X 3544 pixels and a size of min. 3 MB and max. 6 MB
- The image’s quality must sufficient to be printed in 30x40 cm format, in the event of any deviations, the organizers reserve their right to crop the photos to the required format
- The images must not contain any inscriptions, graphics, stamps, watermarks, names or similar or any borders
- Photo collages are excluded from participation
Students have until 12.05.2025, 23:59 to submit their picture directly via the project website (German or French).
Prizes
1st price: € 1,000
2nd price: € 750
3rd price: 500€ Franco-German Friendship Prize (Prix Coup de Cœur franco-allemand / Deutsch-Französischer Freundschaftspreise) for a particularly successful commitment to Franco-German friendship
The award ceremony is expected to take place in Lyon at the end of June.
The selection of the photos by the jury
All photos submitted by the deadline undergo an anonymized selection process. The international jury consists of representatives of the Cnous, the DSW and the financial support organization - DFJW. If possible, former award winners, artists and photographers from both countries will also be included.
The jury will select the winners based on the following criteria:
- Relevance of the photographic work to the topic
- Creative thematic treatment of the topic
- Overcoming clichés, ingrained ways of thinking and prejudices
- Technical quality of the photograph
