BAföG - applying with BAföG Digital

Since August 2021, you can submit your BAföG application directly via the uniform nationwide BAföG Digital platform. At www.bafoeg-digital.de, an application wizard guides you step by step through the entire application process - from the initial application to follow-up applications and study start-up aid.

The application can be interrupted at any time and continued later, as your data is saved in a personal account. With a BundID user account, you can submit the application digitally without having to print it out or send it by post.

BAföG Digital App: The application on the go

With the free BAföG Digital App (available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store), you can conveniently upload documents for an existing application using your smartphone, receive push notifications on the processing status and use the BAföG calculator to estimate your funding.

Important information on submitting an application

  • Initial application: It is best to apply as early as possible - funding is granted from the month in which the application is received, but at the earliest from the start of your studies.
  • Follow-up application: Submit at least two months before the end of the approval period (January 31 for summer semester, July 31 for winter semester) to avoid payment gaps.


You should pay attention to this

  • Contact via BAföG Digital: Refrain from sending documents and applications by e-mail - incomplete or incorrectly formatted attachments delay or prevent processing.
  • Upload all documents: Make sure that all necessary supporting documents (certificate of enrollment, proof of rent, income documents, etc.) are correctly named and uploaded in full.
  • Form 09 only if required: For subsequent applications, only use form 09 if the responsibility of the office has not changed, there is no time gap between the previous and current application and your income/assets have not changed. In the event of changes, it is necessary to submit form 01 (initial application). Forms 03 must always be submitted by the parents (for each parent).
